Young midfielder, Melkamu Frauendorf, leaves Liverpool

Liverpool FC has confirmed that young German midfielder Melkamu Frauendorf has joined Hannover 96, ending a 4-year spell on Merseyside.

Frauendorf made two senior appearances under Jurgen Klopp but failed to earn a permanent call-up to the Reds senior squad.

Liverpool FC has confirmed the departure of young midfielder Melkamu Frauendorf, with the German youth player returning to his homeland to play for Hannover 96.

Frauendorf joined the Reds from Hoffenheim in August 2020, aged 16, and arrived with a big reputation as a powerful midfielder with an eye for goal.

Joining up with the under 18's, Frauendorf became a fixture in the team, before moving up to the under 21 squad.  By January 2022, Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp had seen enough in training to give Frauendorf his senior debut, against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup Third Round.  Later the same year (on the 9th of November 2022), Frauendorf made his one and only senior start for Liverpool, against Derby County in the Carabao Cup at Anfield.

Sadly for Frauendorf, and Liverpool, the youngster was unable to build on his early promise, and despite becoming a regular in the under-21 side, the club decided against offering the German a new contract, meaning he was free to move on.

After several offers, Frauendorf has now agreed on a multi-year deal with Hannover 96, where he will initially join up with their under-23 side, as he looks to take the next step in his football career.

Everyone at LFC - Back On Our Perch wishes Melkamu well for the future.
