Luis Diaz 'excited' about his Liverpool future
Liverpool's Colombian forward Luis Diaz looks to have committed his immediate future to the club, despite ongoing speculation that he may leave the club in the summer.
The tricky winger has been linked with a move to Barcelona and PSG in the last few days, but speaking to the club website yesterday, Diaz says he is excited about his and the club's future.
Despite being heavily linked with European giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, Colombian winger Luis Diaz appears to have committed his future to Liverpool, saying he is "excited" about the club's future, despite current manager Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of the season.
Diaz, who joined the club from Portuguese side Porto at the end of the January Transfer window in 2022, was speaking recently after picking up the Standard Chartered Mens Player of the Month award for April, and confirmed his desire to continue developing as a player and helping the club win more trophies.
Luis Diaz delighted to have a fan song dedicated to him
The Colombian also made special reference to his fan song and re-iterated his desire to repay the fans for the love they have shown him since arriving at Anfield two years ago.
"It's something beautiful and special because every time we go out to give it our all. To uphold the institution, the club. To do what I came to do from the first moment I arrived."
"I always wanted to perform well. I always wanted to be one of the best, trying to respect everyone. Seeing the fans sing that song, that beautiful song, leaves you something very nice marked for you, to take as a memory."
"I'm very happy. I thank them very much for what they are doing. I always go out happy to the field because I know I have their full support."
The fan's support, and hearing his name sung in the stands, has clearly made a big impression on the tricky winger, who has been in fine form over the last few weeks, after a difficult couple of months that saw him return to Colombia in the wake of his father's kidnapping by Colombian rebels.
Diaz excited about Liverpool's future
Despite the personal drama he has faced this season, Diaz has played 49 times for the club, scoring 13 goals and registering 4 assists, with his determination and energy making him a clear favourite amongst Liverpool fans and players.
There is always room for improvement though, and Diaz made it quite clear where he sees his future,
"From the beginning of my career to today, I feel that with the passage of days, of years, living each experience in each different team, coming to this great club that is Liverpool, leaves you with a lot of learnings."
"You learn more and more to be a professional, to be a better person, to be a good teammate and a good guy. The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that."
"Personally, I will always try to do my best, always try to give 100 percent, to always stand out on the field, which is what I came [here] to do. I’m always grateful to God for every opportunity."
With Jurgen Klopp leaving Anfield after nine glorious years in charge, it's understandable that some players may feel the need to seek new challenges, but Diaz clearly isn't one of those players, with his assertion that "Great years are coming for the club", a clear sign that he has no plans to leave Anfield any time soon.
