Congested at the top and bottom of the league

Lets start with the biggest game of the weekend, the Reds trip to Man City.  Whilst it wasn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination, it was important that Liverpool didn't lose.  In fact, it felt like both teams were happy to settle for a point, rather than going all out to win the game.    That makes sense, when several title races have been settled by one point in recent years, neither side wanted to risk losing, and giving the other team an advantage in the Title race.

The other big winners at the top of the table were Newcastle United, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Newcastle picked up an impressive 4 - 1 victory over Chelsea at St James Park.  In an entertaining game, both sides looked capable of winning, but after the break, Newcastle bullied Chelsea, scoring 2 quick goals, before Chelsea Captain Reece James was sent off, effectively securing the win for Newcastle.  Arsenal's victory over Brentford in the Saturday evening kick-off was less eventful, but the victory is no less important.

Onto Sunday, and Aston Villa picked up an impressive 2-1 victory over Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.  The result means Tottenham has lost the last three Premier League games, dropping from 1st to 5th in the table.  Later in the day, Manchester United beat an abject Everton, 3 - 0, at Goodison Park, to move to 6th in the table.  Everton were looking to bounce back from their recent 10-point deduction for Financial Fair Play breaches, but despite a hostile atmosphere inside the ground, Everton put on a poor performance, failing to take the few chances that fell their way.  The defeat means Everton stay 19th in the table, in the middle of a potential relegation fight with Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town.
