Chasing teams look to close the gap

Come Sunday evening, Liverpool will hopefully be celebrating another Carabao Cup triumph, but the Reds may have even more cause to celebrate if Arsenal or City drop points today.

After defeating Luton Town on Wednesday, Liverpool ensured they will finish the weekend top of the table, regardless of other results, but with City and Arsenal facing difficult games against Bournemouth and Newcastle respectively, there is a chance the Reds could extend their lead at the top, without even playing a game today.

City play first, against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, in a 3pm kick-off.  Although they start as underdogs, Bournemouth have plenty of fire-power and will be confident of causing the City defence plenty of problems.  Former Red, Dominic Solanke, could give Liverpool a massive helping hand if he can score the goals to beat City today.  Then, later this evening, Arsenal welcome Newcastle to the Emirates Stadium.  Arsenal starts the game as favourites, but Newcastle has the potential to frustrate Arsenal and hit them on the counter.  Given how poorly Arsenal played in Europe in mid-week, if they don't start the game well, the crowd could become nervous, which in turn will affect the players.

LFC - Back On Our Perch will bring you all the weekend results on Monday, as well as an analysis of how the Title race is developing.
