City and Spurs drop points in tight title race...
Liverpool played in the early kick-off this past weekend, and were looking for a victory to extend their lead at the top of the table, and put pressure on City, Arsenal, and Tottenham. They duly delivered with a 4 - 1 victory over Brentford. It was the first time the Reds had won at the Gtech Stadium and the first time they had beaten Brentford away since 1938.
Later on Saturday Arsenal thrashed Burnley 5 - 0 at Turf Moor. We had hoped that Burnley might cause the Gunners some problems, but after taking an early lead, Arsenal never looked back and scored a hatfull of goals for the second weekend running, to improve their goal difference. Tottenham on the other hand, suffered a rare home defeat, against a resurgent Wolves. Wolves have become something of a bogey team for Spurs in recent seasons, and so it proved again on Saturday, as they deservedly ran out 2 - 1 winners.
On Saturday evening all eyes were on City, who welcomed Chelsea to the Etihad Stadium. Although most fans and pundits didn't give Chelsea much of a chance, they produced an excellent performance, hitting City numerous times on the break, and should have scored more than one goal. Ultimately, if you fail to take your chances against City they will usually punish you, and Rodri duly equalised for the Champions late in the game. Despite this, it was two points dropped by City and means that the Title race is now back in Liverpool's hands.
