As the eagerly awaited Anfield Road Stand expansion nears completion, we take a look at the capacity of Anfield, and see how it compares to our rivals grounds.

Despite suffering a number of setbacks (due to the original main contractor going into adminstration), the expansion of the Anfield Road Stand is nearing completion.

After a successful test event two weeks ago, the club has been able to partially open the top tier of the stand, adding an additional 6000 seats to Anfields capacity.  That means Anfield's current capacity is  57,000.  When the Anfield Road Stand expansion is complete in early 2024, Anfield's capacity will stand at 61,000.

Indeed, Liverpool set a new attendance record when Manchester United visited Anfield last Sunday,with 57, 158 fans attending the game.  That was the largest crowd at Anfield for 60 years.

Anfield Records

61,905 - Largest ever attandence at Anfield, on February 2nd, 1952, when Liverpool hosted Wolverhampton Wanders in the FA Cup.

58,757 - Largest attendance for a league match at Anfield, as Liverpool drew 2 - 2 with Chelsea in December 1949.

57,158 - Largest attendance for a Premier League match at Anfield, as Liverpool drew 0 - 0 with Manchester United on 17th December 2023

57,332 -Largest attendance at Anfield for a Carabao Cup (League Cup) match, as Liverpool beat West Ham 5 - 1 on Wednesday 20th December 2023.

How does Anfield's capacity compare to other grounds?

When Anfield reaches it's full 61,000 capacity, it will be the fourth largest stadium in the Premier League.
