Fabio Carvalho back at Liverpool

Fabio Carvalho back at Liverpool

Young midfielder Fabio Carvalho is back at Liverpool, after his loan with RB Leipzig was cancelled by the German side, after he made just 15 appearances in the Bundesliga.

Fabio Carvalho is back at Anfield, after the attacking midfielders loan with RB Liepzig, was cancelled by the German club earlier today.

The 21 year old moved to Liepzig in the summer, and was hoping the move would provide him with the extra experience needed to break into Jurgen Klopp's first team.  Sadly, the move did not go according to plan, with the Portuguese playmaker making just 15 appearances for Liepzig - with most of those coming from the bench.

Carvalho joined Liverpool from Fulham in the summer of 2022, and featured 21 times for Liverpool last season, scoring three goals.  Both Klopp and the club have high hopes for Carvalho, but despite this, Klopp seemed reluctant to guarantee the youngster a place in the starting XI this season, which is why a loan move made perfect sense.  Even Better, RB Liepzig seemed the perfect place to go, with the German club having a reputation for nurturing and developing young players.

Sadly, things did not go well from the start, with Carvalho managing just 280 minutes of football, making one start and eight substitute appearances in the Bundesliga.  Carvalho also made one start and two substitute appearances in the Champions League.

With Liepzig challenging for the German Title, it seems unlikely that Carvalho would be able to force his way into Manager Marco Rose's plans anytime soon, which is why both clubs have decided to cancel the loan early.

Another loan looks likely...

Sadly for Carvalho, his chances of getting into the Liverpool starting XI, are no better than his chances at Liepzig, meaning another loan move looks likely.

Of course, with Liverpool playing in four competitions, and games coming thick and fast over the coming weeks, not to mention the loss of Wataru Endo and Mohamad Salah to international duties next week, there is a small chance that Klopp may look to use Carvalho in the short term.  If as expected though, the club decide to send him back out on loan, where is he likely to end up?

Championship clubs on alert

Before joining Liepzig, it was reported that Carvalho had several offers from Championship clubs, and it is likely that a number of promotion chasing clubs will once again be interested.  In fact, almost as soon as news broke of Carvalho's return, Southampton and Leicester City were being linked with the player.

There may also be a couple of Premier League teams weighing up a move, particularly those in the lower half of the league.  However, the problem with joining a team in a relegation battle, is that managers want players who fight and scrap, not a 'luxury' player like Carvalho, who could win you points, but could also go missing for large parts of the game.
