Liverpool top of the pile...but tough challenges lie ahead

What is it about Liverpool and 12.30 kick-offs...?  Whenever we play on Saturday lunchtime, we seem to lack energy and purpose, only starting to play when the game is on the line, and time is ticking away.  Luckily, we have enough quality throughout the squad, and the mental toughness, to keep working and grind out results.  And so it was on Saturday, where another 'come from behind' victory moved Liverpool top of the table.

In the Saturday 3pm kick-offs, Manchester United suffered a humiliating 3 - 0 home defeat against Bournemouth - the first time the Cherries have ever won at Old Trafford in the Premier League.  Brighton and Burnley, and Wolves and Nottingham Forest shared the spoils after both games ended one apiece, whilst Sheffield United earned a much needed victory over a depleted Brentford.  Finally, in the 5.30 kick-off, Aston Villa showed that the mid-week win over Man City was no fluke, with another 1 - 0 victory, this time over title challengers Arsenal.  That result ensured Liverpool would end the weekend top of the league, just one point ahead of the Gunners.

Moving onto Sunday, and Chelsea had another game to forget.  As well as losing to Everton at Goodison Park, the Blues also lost Captain Reece James to another thigh injury, and keeper sanchez also went off in the second half.  Fulham thrashed West Ham 5 - 0, their second 5 - 0 victory in 3 days, before Manchester City came from behind to defeat Luton Town 2 - 1 at Kenilworth Road.  Onto the early evening kick-off and Tottenham thrashed a tired looking Newcastle 4 - 1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.  After the game Newcastle Manager Eddie Howe admitted his players 'running on fumes', with an ever growing list of injuries severely limiting his options.
