Van Dijk nominated for Premier League Player of the Season Award
Liverpool's captain, Virgil van Dijk has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season Award, in recognition of his outstanding season with the Reds.
Van Dijk, who was made Liverpool Captain at the start of the campaign, has helped guide the Reds to Carabao Cup success and dealt with a massive injury crisis that saw numerous Academy players drafted into the first team.
The Premier League title may have slipped away, but Virgil Van Dijk can still achieve personal glory this season, after being nominated for the EA Sports Premier League 'Player of the Season' Award.
Van Dijk, 32, has made 34 appearances for the Reds this season, scoring two goals (against Luton Town and Sheffield United), and helping keep eight clean sheets.
He has also thrived under the extra responsibility of being Captain, helping guide the team to Carabao Cup glory, even though the club had to endure an unprecedented injury crisis, that saw eleven first-team players out injured for much of January and February.
Van Dijk's calmness and composure have helped guide numerous Academy graduates, such as Conor Bradley and Jarell Quansah, who suddenly found themselves thrust into Wembley Finals and European knock-out games, while his goal, and celebration, in the Carabao Cup Final will long be talked about on the terraces at Anfield.
