Virgil Van Dijk commits his future to Liverpool

Liverpool Captain Virgil Van Dijk insists he is happy at Liverpool and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead, despite the uncertainty caused by the impending departure of Jurgen Klopp.

Speculation has been mounting that Van Dijk may look to follow the German out of Anfield at the end of the season, but the Dutch International has moved to end speculation, saying "It is quite interesting and exciting what will happen now."

This summer will see massive changes at Anfield, with Legendary manager Jurgen Klopp leaving the club after nine years in charge.

With most of Klopp's back-room staff also leaving, the club faces a massive rebuilding project, with Dutch coach Arne Slot looking like the man FSG and Michael Edwards have picked to start a new era at the club.  With so much uncertainty around the club at the moment, it's not surprising that many people have speculated which players may follow Klopp's lead, and head for the exit doors over the summer.

One player that appears to have committed his future to the club though, is Captain Virgil Van Dijk, who confirmed he is happy at the club and looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

Speaking with Sky Sports after Liverpool's excellent 4 - 2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Van Dijk confirmed,

"The focus is now on the last two games and then the club will focus on who the new manager is and there will be a big transition and I am part of that."

"There is nothing for me to discuss [regarding my future] because there is no news. Like I said, I am very happy here, I love the club and you can see that as well. It's a big part of my life already."

"There will be a lot of changes happening and I wouldn't say scary is the right word, but it is quite interesting and exciting what will happen now. So let's see."

Van Dijk full of priase for Jurgen Klopp

As well as speaking about the future, Van Dijk was also full of praise for outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp, describing the German as a "fantastic manager and a great human being",

"He is a fantastic manager, a great human being and we have a great relationship."

"I am really proud I played for him, fought for the badge and him, and count the success we had over the years as well."

"It will be emotional on the last day but it is a part of life sometimes. Many things are happening behind the scenes but we focus on match days and that is our duty, our job, and we want to perform for the last six points."

Klopp has two more games in charge of the Reds, starting with Aston Villa away next Monday, before his final game, fittingly at Anfield, on Sunday 19th May, when Wolves are the visitors.  With Liverpool having already secured Champions League football for next season, Klopp and his players can enjoy their last few weeks together, before both parties embark on new adventures next season.
