- Alisson is currently sidelined with a muscle injury
- Red's first-choice keeper has missed the last five games, including the Carabao Cup Final
- Klopp confirms no timeline set for Alisson's return
Social media went into overdrive last night with stories regarding Liverpool keeper Alisson Becker, with many reporting the keeper is set to miss the rest of the season with a muscle injury.
Alisson has missed the last five matches for Liverpool, including last weekend's Carabao Cup Final at Wembley, since suffering the injury in training at the start of February. Luckily the Reds have a fantastic backup keeper in Caoimhin Kelleher, with the young Irishman making world-class saves in both the Final and the FA Cup match against Southampton last time out.
Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp provided updates on many of his injured players yesterday in his pre-match press conference, including Salah, Nunez, and Szoboszlai. And speaking to the official Liverpool FC website earlier today, Klopp confirmed that there is no timescale on Alisson's return, but that he is happy to have Kelleher to call upon.
"There is no real timescale on it, but it is a proper muscle injury. Different players recover differently. That is it pretty much."
"It is not a sure one. It is not that he will be in contention for next week or something like that. We have to wait a few more weeks, definitely, for him. He is working in the gym, not on the pitch."
Despite Klopp's comments, many fans and social media sites have taken to the internet speculating that Alisson may miss the rest of the season. Only time will tell if they are proved right, but for now, we should all just be grateful that we have a brilliant young keeper in Kelleher to come in and take Alisson's place.
Kelleher to get more game time
We reported several weeks ago that Alisson may be out until after the international break in mid-March, and whilst Klopp has not confirmed that information, it looks as though he will be missing several key games in the coming weeks, including:
Liverpool vs Manchester City (10th March)
Europa League Round of 16 (7th & 14th March)
Manchester United vs Liverpool (17th March)
