Klopp provides injury update on Salah and Nunez

Jurgen Klopp has used his pre-match press conference to deliver some positive injury news regarding Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

  • Jurgen Klopp has been speaking ahead of this weekend's trip to Nottingham Forest
  • Nunez and Szoboszlai could both feature
  • Mo Salah nearing a return as well

After weeks of injury problems, Jurgen Klopp has finally been able to deliver some positive news today, with Darwin Nunez and Dominik Szoboszlai in line to return this weekend.  There is also good news regarding Mo Salah, who should be fit to play next week, ahead of our big showdown with Manchester City on the 10th of March.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference this afternoon, Klopp confirmed that striker Nunez and midfielder Szoboszlai both resumed full training on Thursday and should be fit to travel with the Reds for Saturday's game at Forest.

Klopp confirmed,

"Darwin and Dom trained yesterday with the team. So, they looked good, but we have to wait [to see] how they react."

With regards to Salah, Klopp confirmed the player is getting closer to a return,

"I don’t think Mo is too far off, but he will not feature tomorrow and from there, we have to go.  It's like touch and go… but I think next week at any point it is possible. He is on the way back, definitely, but not there yet."

Rest and recovery for other members of the squad

As well as Salah, Nunez, and Szoboszlai, Klopp also confirmed that Wataru Endo and Andy Robertson should take part in full training later today, saying,

"Wataru and Robbo didn't, but there is the plan that they join in today. That’s the idea but we have to see if that really works out."

Ibrahima Konate is fit and ready to play after getting 45 minutes against Southampton in midweek, but there is a worry regarding Alexis Mac Allister, who has been suffering from a bug.  Klopp explained that the medical staff did not realise the Argentine midfielder was ill, but that it was nothing too serious.  Klopp also joked that he has not asked for further updates on the illness, as he doesn't want to know if anyone is ill!  It's good to see that he still has his sense of humour, despite our terrible run of injuries.

"The little problem we couldn't know about is that Macca was ill for one-and-a-half days I would say and Robbo had the same thing, so hopefully that didn't spread now. So far I didn't hear anything [but] I didn't ask because I don't want to know probably! So, we will see."

LFC - Back On Our Perch will have the confirmed team news from the City Ground tomorrow around 2pm.
