Slot makes history as Reds secure win over Bologna

It was another excellent night for Liverpool and Arne Slot on Wednesday, as the Reds secured a 2 - 0 victory over Bologna in the Champions League, with Slot writing himself into the records books in the process.

Victory over the Italian side not only cemented the Red's place in the top 8 of the Champions League 'League Table', but it also meant Slot had won 8 of his first 9 games in charge of Liverpool, becoming the first manager in the club's history to achieve the feat.

It was another record-breaking night at Anfield on Wednesday, as Liverpool recorded a 2 - 0 victory over Italian side Bologna, to maintain their excellent start to this season's Champions League campaign.  Goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mo Salah ensured Liverpool took all three points, in front of a capacity crowd at Anfield.

Reds prevail despite stubborn opposition

With Bologna sitting 13th in Serie A, many fans might have expected a bigger margin of victory for Arne Slot's side, but Anfield tends to bring the best out of opposition teams, and so it proved again last night, as Bologna provided offered plenty of attacking threat, with Alisson called into action on more than one occasion.

Despite this, Liverpool always looked like they had another level if needed, and once Mo Salah scored with an excellent curling effort midway through the second half, the result was never really in doubt.

Liverpool sitting pretty in Champions League Table

The result means Liverpool ended the night in 5th position in the new Champions League table, and while it is too early to say that qualification for the knock-out rounds is assured, the club has made the best possible start to the revamped competition.  The Reds face RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen next, before an epic match against Real Madrid on the 27th of November.  If the Reds can win both the next two games, then whatever the result against Madrid, the Reds will be in an excellent position to qualify for the latter stages of the competition.

Arne Slot writes himself into the record books

It's safe to say that Arne Slot has made an excellent start to his Liverpool reign. Despite many doubts over the Dutch coach before the season, the way in which the players have bought into his tactics and ideas, and the results that have followed, means many fans have already been won over.

And Slot can now claim his own little piece of Anfield history after he became the first coach in the club's 130+ year history to win 8 of his first 9 games in charge, with the only blemish on his record, the disappointing 1 - 0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest.

That result aside, Slot's team have been excellent, mixing attacking flair with dogged defending, and sits at the top of the Premier League, and progressing well in the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

The result also means Slot now has a better record (from his first 9 games) than any other Liverpool manager, including Jurgen Klopp, Sir Keny Dalglish, and Bill Shankly.

Slot's record against the best

Arne Slot - 8 wins from opening 9 games - 88.8% win rate
Jurgen Klopp - 5 wins from opening 9 games - 55.5% win rate
Sir Kenny Dalglish (1st Term) - 5 wins from opening 9 games - 55.5% win rate
Bill Shankly - 5 wins from opening 9 games - 55.5% win rate

Great report as always on the reds progress. Early days and a long way to go, but keep the dream alive and who knows where it can lead.
