Liverpool FC Weekly Review - 30th September 2024

LFC - Back on our Perch brings you our Liverpool FC Weekly Review, with all the games, goals, and reactions from another massive week of football involving the men's, women's, and academy teams.

Arne Slot's side had another excellent week, with wins over West Ham and Wolves, whilst Matt Beard's women's team had to settle for a point in the WSL.

Another week of football is complete, with plenty to celebrate if you're a Reds fan.  Arne Slot's new look Liverpool enjoyed victories in both the Premier League and Carabao Cup, Liverpool FC Women continued their unbeaten start to the season, whilst our under-21 team secured an impressive victory over Arsenal.

Slot's Liverpool look the real deal

Six games into the new Premier League season and Liverpool sit top of the table after another away victory.  This time Wolves were the opposition, but despite not being at their best, Liverpool claimed another three points, thanks to goals from Ibrahima Konate and Mo Salah.

The result moves Liverpool top of the table, one point above Man City and Arsenal.

Elsewhere, City suffered their second successive draw, this time at Newcastle, while Manchester United suffered further humiliation with another 3 - 0 home defeat, this time at the hands of Tottenham.  The result has increased the pressure on United manager Erik Ten Hag, but opposition fans will be hoping he keeps his job for a while longer, as it's always nice to see United struggling.

Reds repeat Carabao Cup Scoreline

Earlier in the week, Liverpool began the defense of the Carabao Cup with a 5 - 1 mauling of West Ham at Anfield.  The result mirrored the scoreline when the two sides met in last season's competition, with Reds fans hoping for similar success come the end of the season.

Liverpool's reward for beating West Ham is an away trip to Brighton in the fourth round.

Liverpool FC Women remain unbeaten

After a disappointing start to the new WSL season - the Reds drew one-all with Leicester at home in their opening fixture - Matt Beard's team was looking to bounce back this week, but once again had to settle for a point at - this time at West Ham - as the home team managed to find an equaliser in the 85th minute.

New signing Olivia Smith scored her first goal for the club since a £200,000 transfer from Sporting CP in the summer, and it looked like she had won all three points for the Reds, only for Riko Ueki to send the home fans wild with an 85th-minute header.

Liverpool Women pressed for an unlikely winner in the final minutes, but once again they had to settle for a point, which leaves them 7th in the table.

Young Guns put Arsenal to the sword

Elsewhere, Liverpool's Under-21s recorded an excellent 3 - 0 away victory over Arsenal in Premier League 2, with goals from Amara Nallo, Tyler Moron, and Ranel Young.  The young Reds had to survive a late onslaught from the home side, after Liverpool Keeper Harvey Davies was sent off, but Barry Lewtas' side held on for an impressive victory.

The result moves Liverpool to fourth in the table, level on points with Arsenal, Man City, and Fulham, and three points behind West Ham.
