Liverpool launch new 2024/25 home kit

Liverpool has unveiled their new home kit for the 2024/25 season, with inspiration taken from the legendary 1984 kit worn by Joe Fagan's treble-winning side. Featuring a red and yellow collar and the club's famous YNWA motto, this is the fifth - and possibly final - kit to be designed by Nike.

Despite the cool retro vibes and bold pattern, fans are unhappy at the hefty £85 price tag, at a time when relations have already been strained due to recent ticket price increases.

Liverpool have launched their new home kit for next season, and while most fans are happy with the design, they are less than impressed by the hefty price tag, with Nike setting the RRP at a whopping £85 for the 'standard' shirt.

Based on the legendary pattern from the 1984 home shirt, the new kit features the club's iconic YNWA motto etched into the fabric, with yellow, red, and white detailing on the collar, again in a nod to the famous 1984 shirt worn by Joe Fagan's legendary team that lifted the European Cup in Rome.

Liverpool kit

This is the fifth kit designed by Nike, and judging by the early online reaction, it is set to be one of the most popular LFC kits in recent years.

Speaking at the launch event, Liverpool Captian, Virgil Van Dijk, gave his approval to the new design, saying,

"I'm a big fan of our new kit for next season and love the fact we’re bringing the retro vibe back. We are a club built on history and the 1984 team was one of our most successful ever. I’m sure our fans will appreciate the nod to those club legends."

It was a statement echoed by Liverpool FC Women's Vice Captain, Taylor Hinds,

"It's such a different look for the new season, and we can’t wait to wear it. The retro inspiration always makes you feel a part of the club’s history is with you as you play."

The new kit is available to pre-order via the official Liverpool FC website, ready for delivery on the 16th of May 2024.

Liverpool fans unhappy at kits £85 price tag

Despite an overwhelmingly positive response to the kit's design and colours, fans are less happy about the kit's price tag, with Nike slapping a whopping £85 RRP on the new 'stadium' kit, and £130 on the 'match jersey'.

That's a £5 increase on last year's kit and comes at a time when relations between the club and fans are already strained over plans to increase ticket prices for next season.

There is also talk of Liverpool ending their deal with Nike and returning to long-time kit supplier Adidas from the 2025 season, with sources close to the club blaming Nike's non-negotiable pricing structure for the price increases.

Liverpool has taken steps to mitigate the increases, by selling the new kit below the RRP in their official stores, but it seems like only a matter of time before Liverpool FC and Nike part company.  News of Liverpool's potential return to Adidas has been met with much cheer from Liverpool fans, partly due to the iconic kits Adidas has produced in the past, but also due to the fact their kits are generally 10-15% cheaper than those produced by Nike.
