Breaking News: Dutch manager confirms he wants to replace Klopp

Dutch manager Arne Slot has confirmed that he wants to join Liverpool in the summer, with the Reds reportedly negotiating with his current club Feyenoord.

Liverpool's search for a new manager has taken many twists and turns in the last 72 hours, but in a huge development earlier this evening, Dutch manager Arne Slot has confirmed that he wants to replace Jurgen Klopp in the Anfield dugout.

Slot, 45, currently manages Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie, leading them to the title in 2022/23, as well as winning the Dutch Cup this season.

Speaking to ESPN before his side's latest match earlier tonight, Slot confirmed that he would jump at the chance to join the Reds, and was hopeful negotiations between the two clubs would be conducted shortly.

When asked about the speculation, Slot replied,

"It seems clear to me that I would like to work there."

"All I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations.  I'm in the waiting room."

Slot later also added that he was "confident" an agreement could be reached between Feyenoord and Liverpool, and while there has been no official word from Liverpool, it is unlikely that Slot would make such a bold statement unless he were confident that talks were taking place.

Talks between the two clubs could take several days. Then negotiations would have to take place between Liverpool and Slot, so we are not expecting an announcement confirming Slot's appointment just yet. Still, the picture appears to be getting much clearer, with an official announcement possible by the end of the weekend.

Van Dijk talks up Slot appointment

Speculation regarding Slot has been increasing in recent days, with Liverpool Captain Virgil Van Dijk being asked about his compatriot, in his post-match interviews last night.

In response, Van Dijk confirmed,

"I find it hard to answer of course, but I think Arne Slot is perhaps one of the better Dutch coaches at the moment."

"I think the way of playing football he has, and the philosophy he has, that he could be a Liverpool coach."

"Only I think from what I read and hear is that it's still far from being completed.  We shall see."
