Post-Match Quotes: Klopp happy to still be in the title race
LFC - Back On Our Perch rounds up the best post-match quotes, after Liverpool returned to winning ways with a confident 3 - 1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had a smile on his face once again yesterday, after his much-changed Liverpool side recorded a confident 3 - 1 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, to put the Reds right back in the title mix.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the game, Klopp admitted he was happy to still be in the title race,
"Fulham usually cause us more problems so it was a good performance at the right moment."
"We want to stay in that race, that's clear. Arsenal won yesterday, Manchester City will win their game in hand, so we have to win games and that's what we'll try [to do]."
"For 80 minutes we played a really good game. I didn't like the last 10 minutes of the first half and they got the goal. But that's alright because I loved the second half."
"We could show again what we did really well in the first half - we kept the ball, created, and scored some good goals. We had some good chances on top of that too. We made some changes and the boys did really well."
Speaking with Liverpoolfc.com, Klopp also confirmed that he never questioned his player's professionalism,
"Look, I don’t question these kind of things. We were that before. Obviously, we didn’t gain an awful lot of points in that period but I think it was still one or two. OK, we should have won games, we didn’t. That’s not great. But created a lot and we are in the situation we are because of the character of these boys. Nobody expected us to be here and here we are. That’s because of the boys."
"It's the run-in, obvious, there’s no interruption anymore. There’s no [European] football anymore, at least not for us. Actually for no English team besides Aston Villa. So we all can concentrate on that and that’s what we probably will all do. I’m really happy with today. We made these changes because we were 100 percent convinced we had to. It was not a gamble or whatever. We play on Wednesday and then we play on Saturday, already in London again, which is crazy enough but that’s how it is. So we need to make these changes before the players give me the obvious sign, ‘Sorry, I’m done.’ Really happy with that."
Liverpool goalscorer Alexander-Arnold, speaking to BBC Match of the Day about his goal,
"It felt good and it looked good, from what I saw - the lads told me it was very good! You can tell from their smiles and how excited they are that it was a good finish. It was exciting to score again."
"It's been a tough couple of months for me - not being able to play and do what I love - so it's an amazing feeling to be back out there. I'm enjoying my football and feeling like I'm playing well, as well. It's good to play football, man. It's the best thing to do."
And Arnold later confirmed to Sky Sports that he was looking forward to the title race,
"It's been a very tough couple of weeks - a bad run of games, bad run of form, bad run of results - so it's good to be able to turn that and flip that on its head."
"It was important for us to do that. We knew going into this that we had six games left where we feel as if we have to win every single one to stand a chance to win anything. So it was an important game and there are five more now."
"It's going to be a difficult week with two more away games but we're confident that if we can replicate what we did today then we should be able to get results. We have to expect five wins from five now to even stand a chance of being able to pick up silverware in a few weeks."
"It's exciting, though. You've got three teams who are playing outstanding football and I think, for a neutral, it's got to be one of the most exciting seasons. It's very rare you see a three-horse title race and I'm certainly enjoying it, as much pressure as there is. But these are the games you love to play in and they are the ones that matter the most."
