Liverpool Player Ratings: Tsimikas scores 0/10

Very few Liverpool players can hold their heads up after yesterday's horror show at Anfield, with only Elliott, Robertson, and Kelleher scoring more than 5/10.

Liverpool produced one of their worst-ever performances under Jurgen Klopp on Thursday night, going down 3 - 0 to Italian side Atalanta.  Klopp made six changes to the Starting XI, but very few of his players came out of the game with any credit.

Liverpool Player Ratings

Caoimhin Kelleher - 6/10
Although Kelleher was at fault for the first goal - letting the ball bounce underneath him - he made up for the mistake with 2 excellent saves (one with his face), to at least give Liverpool a small chance of overturning the deficit next week.

Joe Gomez - 3/10
Gomez has been excellent in 2024, but last night his decision-making and passing were well below par.  Caught out of position when defending, and poor going forward, Gomez and his fellow defenders had a night to forget.

Virgil Van Dijk (C) - 4/10
Even our Captain had a bad game, with Van Dijk's positioning and game awareness sadly lacking last night.  Usually leads by example but seemed unable to muster the troops when it mattered.

Ibrahima Konate - 3/10
Used his speed and strength well on occasions, which made it even more puzzling when he seemed to switch off, particularly for their second goal.

Kostas Tsimikas - 0/10
A horror show from our Greek left-back.  Tsimikas was poor in possession, lacked discipline when defending, and couldn't find a teammate with his passes.  Rarely seen in recent weeks, and even less likely to be seen again after last night.

Wataru Endo - 4/10
Endo has been a revelation for Liverpool this season, but too often last night he was caught out by Atalanta's style of play and man-marking system.  Can be forgiven for one bad game, it's just a shame the rest of the team was also terrible.

Alexis Mac Allister - 4/10
Mac Allister has been nothing short of sensational recently, but even he couldn't get going last night, misplacing passes and getting outmuscled in midfield.

Curtis Jones - 4/10
Still finding his form and fitness after a long layoff, Jones tried hard but wasn't at his best.  Taken off at halftime.

Harvey Elliott - 5/10
How different the game might have been if Elliott's brilliant effort had gone in off the bar, rather than bouncing onto the post and away to safety.  Found pockets of space and always looking for an intelligent, forward pass.  Can feel a little aggrieved at being taken off at halftime.

Cody Gakpo - 5/10
Gakpo had one of his better games in recent weeks, working hard with and without the ball.  Still needs to develop his game awareness, but there is a player in there.

Darwin Nunez - 3/10
Mr Chaos was not at the races tonight, scuffing Liverpool's best chance when put through one-on-one.  Nunez tried hard as always, but he needs to be more clinical in front of goal if Liverpool are to win more silverware this season.

Mo Salah - 4/10 (second-half substitute)
Had a goal ruled out for a tight offside, but a player of Salah's quality and experience should not have strayed offside in the first place.  His general play has not been great in recent weeks, and last night was another example of that.

Andy Robertson - 6/10 (second-half substitute)
Robertson made a positive impact when he came on, driving forward down the left and giving Liverpool purpose.  Lovely pass to set up Salah, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.  After Tsimikas's awful performance, Robertson has to start the next game.

Dominik Szoboszlai - 3/10 (second-half substitute)
Another player who has been poor in recent weeks, Szoboszlai seems to be lacking confidence at the moment.  Tried hard last night, but was caught in possession or gave the ball away too many times.

Luis Diaz - 5/10 (second-half substitute)
Full of running as always, but often tried one trick or flick too many.

Diogo Jota - 4/10 (second-half substitute)
It was great to see Jota back in action, and he made an immediate impact as soon as he came on, winning a free kick on the edge of the box.  Had a couple of headed efforts but neither troubled the keeper, but at least he got into goal-scoring positions.
