United facing defensive injury crisis, with up to six players missing tomorrow

Manchester United may have as many as SIX defenders missing for tomorrow's match against Liverpool, which is good news for Jurgen Klopp and his players after City and Arsenal both won earlier today.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag is facing a defensive injury crisis ahead of tomorrow's match with Liverpool, with up to six first-team defenders missing.

Having watched title rivals Manchester City and Arsenal both win comfortably earlier today, the Reds know they must secure all three points tomorrow at Old Trafford if they are to return to the top of the Premier League, and United's current injury problems may help that task.

Speaking ahead of the match on Sunday, Ten Hag confirmed that as many as nine first-team players could miss the match for United, with Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, and Anthony Martial all on the long-term injured list.

But it is in defence where United has the biggest problems, with Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane both picking up injuries in their recent 4 - 3 defeat against Chelsea.  That leaves Harry Maguire and Willy Kambwala as the only fit centre-backs for Sunday's game, which will be music to the ears of Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, and Luis Diaz.

Liverpool recently lost to United in the FA Cup, with Amad Diallo scoring a last-minute winner, as the Reds went down 4 - 3.  Despite the result, Liverpool did more than enough to win the game and wasted several excellent opportunities to wrap up the match, when 2 - 1, and 3 - 2 up.  Jurgen Klopp will be hopeful that Liverpool's attackers are not so generous this time around, and if United are forced to field a make-shift defence, that will only boost Liverpool's chances.

Liverpool injury problems easing

In contrast to United's problems, Liverpool's injury crisis appears to be easing, with Andy Robertson, Ibrahima Konate, Curtis Jones, and Ryan Gravenberch all returning to action this week.  Jurgen Klopp is still without key players such as Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota, and Joel Matip, but he has a lot more options going into tomorrow's game than he did a couple of weeks ago.

Wataru Endo will need to pass a late fitness test, but after resting the Japanese International in midweek, Klopp is confident he will be fit to start at Old Trafford.
