LFC – Back On Our Perch rounds up the best post-match quotes after Liverpool moved back to the top of the Premier League table with a hard-fought 3 – 1 victory over Sheffield United at Anfield.

Liverpool made hard work of their match against bottom club Sheffield United, with a 20-yard screamer from Alexis Mac Allister setting the Reds on their way to a vital win last night. After the match, Klopp and his players spoke to the media about the importance of getting the victory and taking one game at a time in the title race.

Liverpool Manager, Jurgen Klopp, speaking with TNT Sports,

"We needed Macca's wonder goal to turn it around. He is super important for us, a wonderful player and a wonderful boy - I'm really happy for Liverpool that we got him."

"His defensive work has been really good where people were doubting if he could be defensive, but I prefer him in the eight [attacking midfield]."

"He is a really good player. In the first half he was playing [as a] six, but we knew we could move him slightly higher. Then he scores this kind of goal, the two biggest screamers of the season [after also scoring from long distance against Fulham] have come from him. Then the free-kick directly after [the goal] - absolutely insane, what a player."

Liverpool goalscorer, Cody Gakpo, speaking with TNT Sports,

"We had a lot of possession but they defended well, we had to work really hard for the win."

"Patience is the most important thing. You can get frustrated or in a bad mood, but we stayed calm and focused."

Liverpool Captain, Virgil Van Dijk, speaking with TNT Sports,

"We could have gone behind quite early. We have to start games much better, much more aggressive, and that’s something we have to work on,"

"But it says something about the team, the resilience, how we bounced back, and how we could change the game. At this stage it’s all about the points, you can’t drop anything."

"Keep calm' is definitely something I try to implement. The boys have been doing outstandingly and it’s a big credit to them."

"But there will be nervy moments when we’re playing at home, it’s 1-1 and all of a sudden the defence starts to get a bit nervy and the atmosphere is starting to get a bit nervy, you have to stay calm and not try and rush things."

"You have to enjoy it as well, I think that’s the main thing. These boys are doing incredibly and we have to keep doing that and see where it brings us."

Liverpool goalscorer, Alexis Mac Allister, when asked if yesterday’s goal was better than his strike against Fulham earlier in the season,

"I don’t know… we were discussing that! Both of them were very good."

"The most important thing is it helped to win the game and that’s so important. Against Fulham, they told me it was lucky, so I had to prove them wrong!"
