International Roundup: Elliott and Koumas score, Gakpo finds form

Liverpool players have been enjoying plenty of success on the international stage today, with Elliott and Koumas amongst the goals, while Diaz and Gakpo picked up assists.

The March International break is in full swing, with 18 Liverpool players representing their countries.  Many of those players have been involved in matches yesterday and today, with plenty of success for the players to enjoy.

LFC - Back On Our Perch rounds up the best of the action below:

Thursday 21st March 2024

Greece 5 - 0 Kazakhstan
Kostas Tsimikas played the full 90 minutes and grabbed an assist, as Greece thrashed Kazakhstan 5 - 0, in a European Championship play-off game.  The result moved Greece one step closer to this summer's European Championships, which will be held in Germany in June.

Friday 22nd March 2024

Hungary 1 - Turkey
Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai once again Captained Hungary and scored the winning goal, as his team beat Turkey in a friendly.  Szoboszlai scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the 48th minute. The result means Hungary has now gone 13 games unbeaten.

Netherlands 4 - 0 Scotland
Dutch duo Virgil Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo are celebrating tonight after they helped secure a 4 - 0 victory over Scotland.  Van Dijk was in fine form at the heart of defence, while Gakpo set up two of the Netherlands' four goals.  Gakpo's performance is especially pleasing after the young attacker has looked short of confidence in recent matches for the Reds.

On the flip side, Andy Robertson suffered one of his heaviest defeats as Scotland's Captain.  Operating in a more advanced role on the left of midfield, the tough-tackling defender was unable to prevent his team from concerning three late goals.

Columbia 1 - 0 Spain
Luis Diaz was in fine form for Columbia, setting up the only goal of the game with a brilliant solo run and cross for Daniel Monuz to score.  Diaz showed no signs of the injury scare that forced him off the pitch at Old Trafford last Sunday, which is great news for Klopp and all Liverpool fans.

Romania 1 - 1 Northern Ireland
Young right-back Conor Bradley gained plenty of experience as he played the full 90 minutes for Northern Ireland, and played a part in their goal.

Azerbaijan Under-21s 1 - 5 England Under-21s
Harvey Elliott was once again the star of the show for England Under-21s, scoring two goals, as the young lions thrashed Azeriajan in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier.  Elliott can count himself unlucky not to have been called up to the full England squad, but he will have done his chances no harm with another fine performance.  On load Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton also played in the match, grabbing an assist.  Morton is having an excellent season on loan at Hull, where he has played 30 times.

England Under-18s 0 - 0 Germany Under-18s (England Won 5 - 3 on penalties)
Liverpool had three players in the England Under-18 team that played Germany, with Jayden Danns, Amara Nallo, and Trey Nyoni all starting the match.  Although it ended goalless, Danns helped England win 5 - 3 on penalties.

England Under-20s 5 - 1 Poland Under-20s
Liverpool also had three players in the England Under-20 team that beat Poland, with Bobby Clark, Kaide Gordon, and Luke Chambers all coming on as second-half substitutes.

Wales Under-21s 2 - 1 Lithuania Under-21s
Lewis Koumas was the hero for Wales Under-21s, as he scored on his debut to earn the Welsh a hard-fought victory over Lithuania.  The result moves the Welsh team one step closer to qualifying for the European Under-21 Championships.

LFC - Back On Our Perch will have another International roundup in a couple of days, after the next set of matches have been played.
