2024 LFC Legends Match - Fun facts and figures

Ahead of today's eagerly anticipated Legends Charity Match, LFC - Back On Our Perch has put together some fun facts and figures about the Liverpool Legends taking part.

With kick-off just a few hours away, LFC - Back On Our Perch takes a fun look at the Legends taking part in today's Charity Match at Anfield, as Liverpool take on Ajax.

The match is a sell-out, with nearly 60,000 fans attending the game, which is raising money for the LFC Foundation.

The Liverpool squad will be managed by Sir Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, and Sven-Goran Eriksson, and includes players such as Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Dirk Kuyt, Sami Hyypia, and Jerzy Dudek.

Player Ages

As you can see from the table above, Jari Litmanen is the oldest player taking part, at 53, while Jay Spearing is the youngest, at just 35.  The average age of the players is 42 years and 11 months.

Liverpool Appearances and Goals

The 21 players taking part today have amassed 3,333 appearances for Liverpool, with Steven Gerrard topping the list with 710 LFC appearances.  At the other end of the scale, Gregory Vignal made just 20 appearances for the Reds.  In terms of goals, Steven Gerrard again tops the list, with 185 goals, ahead of Fernando Torres (81), and Dirk Kuyt (71).  All-together the 21 players scored a total of 488 goals for Liverpool!

Total Career Appearances and Goals

Very few players stay at one club for their entire career, with today's squad having played for over 50 different clubs, amassing a total of 10,395 career appearances!  That's more games than Liverpool has played in its entire 130 history.  In terms of goals, Dirk Kuyt leads the way with 298 career goals, just ahead of Djibril Cisse (271), and Fernando Torres (263).

International Appearances and Goals

Many of the Legends have also had celebrated International careers, with Jari Litmanen, Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Fernando Torres, Martin Skrtel, and Sami Hyypia all making over 100 appearances for their countries.  In total, the 21 players have 1,112 international caps between them, scoring 185 international goals.
