It may not have been Arsenal's best performance this season - and yes, they got a lot of help from the referee - but the Gunners secured the win they needed to move top of the Premier League table and add more pressure onto Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of their match at Anfield tomorrow.
Liverpool are still in the box seat and know that if they win all their remaining games, then they will end the season as Champions. The Arsenal result tonight has not changed that, but it does add another layer of pressure and intrigue to tomorrow's game, knowing that Arsenal are now top of the table.
Of course, if Liverpool or City win tomorrow, then they will go top, whilst a draw will see Liverpool move level on points with Arsenal, but stay second on goal difference.
Arsenal's next match is away at Man City, so they really could not afford to drop points at home to Brentford today. They also have the North London Derby against Tottenham coming up soon, so there will be plenty more tests for Mikel Arteta's young side before the end of the season.
