Liverpool produced a gritty display to overcome Burnley yesterday, as the club set a new attendance record for a league match at Anfield. LFC - Back On Our Perch brings you all the best post-match comments from around the web.
Jurgen Klopp, speaking with the official LiverpoolFC.com website,
"No problem with fighting hard for the result. Actually, I can’t remember the last time when that wasn’t the case. But today obviously, for some obvious and for some less obvious reasons, it was clear it will be a really tricky afternoon. It was about how we deal with it, how much character we can show, and the boys showed exactly what we needed."
Jurgen Klopp, speaking about Andy Robertson's return to fitness,
"Yeah it is, absolutely – all of them but Robbo now especially as since we worked together he was never that long out, so for him it was very strange. Yeah, super-important, he played a top game. He had now not only the situation that he is coming back but even when he came back we had these kind of different sessions because we play all the time. We don’t have real sessions where you can feel the game again, it’s small-sided games [with] all the other guys who recover and the few who didn’t play. When you come back from injury you do different stuff so he needed the last week, three sessions, big pitch, 11 v 11, whatever we did, to feel the situation again."
Jurgen Klopp, talking about a record crowd for a league match at Anfield,
"Outstanding, oh my God! Before I really heard it I saw it already [and] it looks exceptional, it looks absolutely exceptional. This stadium grew and grew. It was always wonderful but now it’s really outrageously wonderful. Really top, really top, really loud in the right moments. I know it’s a game [where] there were tricky moments and then it’s difficult to be on your toes… but it’s all good and I am really happy that we have them now finally back, it gives a lot of people the opportunity to see this wonderful team playing football."
Harvey Elliott, speaking with the official Liverpoolfc.com website, about grafting for the win,
"Yeah, as I’ve said before, every game is going to be very hard. Burnley made it very difficult for us in moments, caused us problems as well. We went in at half-time level so you could see the quality that they had. We had to dig deep, we had to find the moments where we could break them down and score vital goals and be clinical – and that’s exactly what we did today."
Harvey Elliott, on his impact from the bench,
"Yeah, it’s part of the journey. As you said, I want to be starting and that’s my goal – I want to get back in the team and kind of cement my spot. But I’m just more than happy getting on the pitch first and foremost, whether it’s off the bench or starting, I’m just happy to put the shirt on and go out and play, especially at Anfield. It’s down to me to try to make a difference; that’s why I’m coming on, that’s kind of my role in the team, that’s why I’m here today."
Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BBC Match of the Day,
"It was super difficult today. We lost so many players two weeks ago and now, then Trent Alexander-Arnold has to go off at half-time. We have to see what's going on there. Curtis Jones had to go right-back and had never played there his entire life! He did so well. We scored these wonderful goals. Harvey Elliott came on and had a real impact. Top performances. We did really well it was just a difficult one.
People think we go through with no real effort but that was never possible. It was a good afternoon. It was not a great moment to concede the goal but the good things was besides the first 15 minutes, we controlled some super situations."
