Mo Salah has joined up with his Egyptian teammates, at their training camp in the Egyptian capital, ahead of the start of the 2024 African Cup of Nations. Salah and Co. will play one final warm up game against Tanzania, on 7th January 2024, before heading off to the Ivory Coast, where they will be based in Abidjan.
Egypt have not won the tournament since 2010, but go in as one of the favourites, mainly due to the brilliance of Salah.
But who else is competing in the tournament, and who are the favourites alongside Egypt?
24 teams bidding for Glory
Twenty three other countries will be joining Egypt in the Ivory Coast :
Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coat, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Zambia.
The 24 teams have already been drawn into six groups, with four teams in each group. Each team will play three group games, with the top team from each group automatically reaching the knock0out stage.
The six groups are as follows :
Group A: Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau.
Group B: Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, Mozambique.
Group C: Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, Gambia.
Group D: Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Angola.
Group E: Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, Namibia.
Group F: Morocco, DR Congo, Zambia, Tanzania.
