Liverpool welcome Newcastle United to Anfield in the first game of 2024.  These two teams have given us some classic games over the years, including earlier in the season, when Liverpool scored two late goals to secure a dramatic victory.  Liverpool were in good form against Burnley, whilst Newcastle have been struggling with injuries, but the Reds will still need to play well to secure another three points.

What time is kick-off?

The match kicks off at 20.00 (UK time), on Monday 1st January 2024.

Where is the game being played?

The game is being played at Anfield.  The partial opening of the new Anfield Road Stand has been a great success, meaning Anfield's capacity will once again be 57,000.

Where are the teams in the table?

Liverpool are riding high at the top of the table, as we start the second half of the season, whilst Newcastle have dropped off the pace and currently sit ninth, having lost four of their last five games.

Are tickets still available?

General tickets sold out months ago, however, there are a small number of hospitality seats still available.

Is the game on TV?

The game will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League.  The programme begins at 7pm.

What happened the last time the teams met?

Liverpool seucred a fantastic 2 - 1 victory over Newcastle at St James Park earlier in the season, despite playing most of the game with ten men, after Captain Virgil van Dijk was sent off.  Darwin Nunez was the hero with two late goals.

Liverpool have not lost to Newcastle in their last 14 meetings, with Newcastle not tasting victory at Anfield since a League Cup triumph in 1995.

Last time out

Liverpool moved top of the table with their 2 - 0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Boxing Day, whilst Newcaslte suffered another heavy defeat, going down 3 - 1 to Nottingham Forest at St James Park.
