Liverpool have been handed a favourable home draw in the next round of the Carabao Cup, as the Reds bid for a record tenth cup triumph.
It wasn't pretty, but as Jurgen Klopp expressed after the game, "It's all about winning, it's all about getting through." And that's exactly what Liverpool did. On a soaking wet night, with the wind causing havoc, Liverpool battled past a resilient Bournemouth, to book their place in the Quarter Finals of the Carabao Cup.
Their reward? A home tie against fellow Premier League team West Ham. It isn't the easiest draw, but it certainly isn't the hardest either.
West Ham progressed after an excellent 3 - 1 victory over Arsenal at home. That performance will be all the evidence Klopp needs, to remind himself and the players, that this tie is far from a formaility.
Liverpool have of course already beaten West Ham at Anfield this season. Add to this the fact that West Ham are playing in Europe again this season, so player fatique and squad depth will play a big part, and Liverpool are definately favourites to progress to the Semi Finals. They are probably favourites to win the whole competition, although Newcastle and Chelsea cannot be overlooked.
The Quarter Final ties will take place week commencing 18th December 2023, with the exact dates to be confirmed shortly.
