Long serving Everton Chairman, and Theatre Producer, Bill Kenwright, has sadly passed away today, after a short illness and battle with cancer.

The city of Liverpool is united this evening after the sad news that Everton Chairman, Bill Kenwright, has passed away at the age of 78.

The legendary figure, renowned for his involvement in football and UK Theatre, died surrounded by his family and loved ones, after a short stay in hospital.  On 12th October this year, Everton confirmed that Kenwright had undergone surgery, to remove a cancerous tumor from his liver six weeks earlier.  Due to complications, Kenwright required a 'prolonged stay in intensive care', but it appears that he was unable to recover, and died peacefully earlier today.

Liverpudlian Kenwright, has been a household name, both in the city of Liverpool, and around the world, after producing hundreds of Broadway, West End, Touring and International theatre productions.  He has also been involved in films and music, as well as playing Gordon Clegg for over 40 years in Coronation Street.

Kenwright spent 19 years as Everton Chairman, overseeing 12 top 8 Premier League finishes, the highlight of which was a 4th place finish in 2005.  Everton were also FA Cup finalists in 2009.

Lately, with Everton struggling in the League, fans have grown increasingly unhappy at Kenwright, and majority share holder, Farhad Moshiri, with protests and demonstrations before and during games.

Announcing his passing, Everton Football Club said "The club has lost a chairman, a leader, a friend, and an inspiration."

Everyone at LFC - Back On Our Perch would like to offer our condolences to Everton FC, its fans and of course, the Kenwright family at this sad time.
