Liverpool take control of Group E

After two rounds of Europa League matches, Liverpool have 6 points, and sit at the top of Group E

As expected, Liverpool have taken a firm grip on Group E, with two routine victories against LASK and Union Saint-Gilloise, and are clear favourites to win the group.

Even before a ball was kicked, many people had Liverpool down as clear favourites, not only to win their group, but to win the Euopa League competition.  After all, Liverpool - under Jurgen Klopp atleast - has become accustomed to Champions League football, winning the competition and fnishing as runners-up twice in the last 7 years.

Compare that to other sides in their group, such as last nights opponents - Union SG, who have only just returned to the top flight of Belgium football, after a 48 year stint in the lower leagues.

Liverpool should (and probably will) win the group with ease, although tougher games lie ahead against Toulouse, who won last season's Coupe De France (the French equivilant of the FA Cup).  Toulouse currently have 4 points from 2 games in the group, and are the only realistic team to challenge Liverpool for top spot.   If Liverpool win the next group game - at home to Toulouse - they will have a 5 point cushion over the French team, and will all but have assured qualification for the knock-out rounds.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Klopp uses his squad players against Toulouse, or whether he fields a strong team, looking for the victory that would cement their spot at the top of the group.
