Liverpool FC Women produced an excellent display to defeat favourites Arsenal, at the Emirates, in front of a record crowd for a Women's Super League game.

Despite a number of injuries and setbacks in the run up to the new season, Liverpool FC Women produced an excellent display, to defeat one of the title favourites on their own patch.

In front of a record crowd - for a Women's Super League game in the UK - of 54,115 people, Liverpool upset their more favoured rivals, securing a 1-0 victory to start the season.

Just at they did last season - when they beat Chelsea Women on the opening day - Liverpool produced a dogged display, soaking up pressure and taking their chance when it came.  Said chance fell to Miri Taylor in the 48th minute, and her low strike proved to be enough to secure the victory.

LFC Women's Manager, Matt Beard, was delighted with the result, and his sides defensive qualities, as he noted in his post-match press conference :

"I think defensively we were outstanding today. I think people will say, 'You were lucky.' We weren't. We defended, we put our bodies on the line, we made great saves when we needed to. I was really pleased with that."

Liverpool goalscorer, Miri Taylor was equally delighted :

“It was just the stuff you dream of every day as a little kid.  When you’re a professional footballer you still don’t think stuff like that will happen to you. It’s just amazing.  Anyone could have scored, our team or their team, but we defended for our lives and put our bodies on the line. We worked really hard and were very disciplined.”

The result gives LFC the perfect platform to build on for the upcoming season.  Well done Ladies!!
