After 6 games of the 2023/24 season, Liverpool sit second in the table, having secured five wins and 1 draw, in what is quickly becoming one of their best starts to a season for many years.

After an unbelievable summer transfer window, in which Reds fans experienced every possible emotion, it was hard to predict how Liverpool would start the 2023 season.

Certainly the midfield issues from last season had been addressed, but a lack of defensive re-enforcements, together with being shunned by high-profile players, meant many fans entered the season with a sense of uncertainty, rather than the usual boundless optimism.  But six games in- and after five straight victories, Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff seem to have found the winning formula once again.

Of course, opposition fans will claim that we have been lucky, coming from behind on three occasions to secure victory, but I would rather focus on the teams resiliance, and faith in its ability to turn games around.  Conceeding early goals is never good, but unlike last season - where our confidence was so brittle, this season is beginning to remind me of 2019-20, where I felt confident we would win, no matter how the game started.

Can the team improve?  Absolutely - and if we want to be serious title contenders then the defence definately needs to improve, but winning games when you are not at your best is what all great teams do - and this team certainly has the potential to be a great team.

How Liverpool's start compares to recent seasons :

Points earned from first six games -

2023/24 Season - 16 points
2022/23 Season - 9 points
2021/22 Season - 14 points
2020/21 Season - 13 points
2019/20 Season - 18 points

As you can see from the simple table above, 16 points from the opening 6 games represents Liverpool's best start to a season since 2019/20 - and we all know what happened that year!  Tough games lay ahead, with both Tottenham and Brighton away our next two games, but if the Reds can navigate those games without losing (or ideally pick up 4 points), then Klopp and his players will definatly believe that a Title challenge is on the cards.
