Williams set for Liverpool exit as Forest moves edges closer
Young Welsh right back Neco Williams looks to be on his way out of Liverpool after the Reds accepted an offer from Nottingham Forest that could amount to £17million.
Liverpool had previously rejected Forest's opening offer of £11million up front with £4million in add-ons. That has prompted Forest to return with an improved offer of £14million up front and a further £3million in add-ons. Yesterday we reported how Southampton were looking to capitalise on the stalemate between the two clubs to sneak in and sign Williams, but Forest know they need a new right back as highly rated Djed Spence is set to depart for Tottenham. Armed with the extra cash from the Spence deal, Forest have increased their offer to ensure the deal progresses quickly.
For their part, Liverpool are looking to balance the books, after splashing the cash earlier in the transfer window to sign Darwin Nunez for £80million. Although there are many at the club that would like to have kept Williams to see how he progresses, the need to bring in extra money means it is a move that suits all parties. The player himself is desperate for more game time as he looks to cement his place in the Welsh World Cup Squad.
It was reported at the start of the week that Williams had already agreed personal terms with Forest, so the transfer should now progress quickly, with a medical taking place in the next couple of days before the deal can be signed off.
