Neco Williams absent from training as young full back near Liverpool exit.
Liverpool's first team squad returned to training earlier this week, with one notable absentee being your full back Neco Williams. The Welshman has been at the centre of transfer speculation for several months, with his excellent loan spell at Fulham during the second half of last season only fuelling talk of a move away from Liverpool this summer.
Indeed, the player himself has hinted at the need for more game time, especially with a place at the World Cup up for grabs later in the year, and it is difficult to see Williams getting many games ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Throw in the fact that Liverpool have also signed Calvin Ramsey from Aberdeen and Williams' chance of playing for Liverpool this season seem slim at best. Liverpool will also be looking to balance the books after their big money capture of Darwin Nunez, and Williams is one of the fringe players Liverpool will definitely be looking to make a profit on.
The player himself seems keen on a permanent move to Fulham, having settled well during his loan spell. With Fulham returning to the Premier League, and the riches the league provides, it was assumed that a permanent deal to the London club was a formality. However, Fulham have yet to make an offer, either to the player or Liverpool, and in the meantime Williams has been attracting interest from other clubs.
Earlier in the week it was reported that Nottingham Forest, also returning to the Premier League this season, had agreed personal terms with the player, but the midlands club was unable to agree a fee with Liverpool. This morning, news broke of Southampton readying a bid of £20million for Williams. Whether the bid is genuine or not remains to be seen, but what is certain is that Williams has no shortage of admirers, and Liverpool will look to extract the largest possible transfer fee for the player, something our transfer team has become experts at in recent seasons.
With Williams missing from pre-season training it is surely only a matter of time before a club matches Liverpool's valuation of the player and a move is agreed.
