Record goalscorer leaves Liverpool as Ben Woodburn signs for Preston North End

Record goalscorer leaves Liverpool

Welsh forward Ben Woodburn has ended his 16 year association with Liverpool by officially signing for Championship side Preston North End.

The young striker has been with Liverpool since the age of 7, and became the club's youngest ever goalscorer when he netted against Leeds in the League Cup in 2016, a record that still stands today.  Despite his obvious talent Woodburn saw his opportunities limited at Anfield, leading to loan spells at Sheffield United, Oxford, Blackpool and Hearts.

Ongoing injury problems and a lack of games meant that Woodburn never really demonstrated his talents during any of his loan spells and it was no surprise when he was released by Liverpool earlier in the summer.

After becoming a free agent Woodburn successfully completed a trial with Preston North End, signing a 1-year deal today, with the option of a further 12 months.  Upon confirming his deal, Woodburn took to Instagram to thank Liverpool for his time at the club.
