Liverpool sign Scottish Wonderkid Calvin Ramsey from Aberdeen

Liverpool have completed their third summer signing with Scottish Wonderkid Calvin Ramsey joining the Reds from Aberdeen for £6.5million.

The young right-back will be used as understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold and will hopefully allow Trent to take a well-deserved rest during cup games.

Ramsey, 18, won the Scottish Young Player of the Year award last season and has drawn comparisons with Alexander-Arnold for his crossing and passing ability, as well as his determination to get forward at every opportunity.  It is little wonder then that Liverpool were so keen to add Ramsey to their ranks, and he can have no better role model to follow than Alexander-Arnold, both on and off the pitch.

Although Aberdeen were keen to keep Ramsey for at-least another season, once Liverpool came calling there was only likely to be one outcome.  Aberdeen will pocket a club record £6.5million from the deal, £4.5million up front with a further £2million in add-ons.

Liverpool were not the only team interested in Ramsey, with Leeds United and several European sides all seeking a deal.  Liverpool was always Ramsey's preferred destination though, and it will be interesting to see how the youngster develops under Jurgen Klopp.

The deal will also likely have knock-on effects for several existing Liverpool players.  Neco Williams has often been touted as our future right back, and whilst their is no denying his talents, he is simply not getting enough game time with the Reds to aid his development.  Williams enjoyed a very successful loan spell with Fulham last season and it was widely expected that he would make the move permanent over the summer. However, the latest reports suggest Klopp and his coaches do not want to lose Williams permanently, but will allow a season long loan to ensure he gets the game time he needs.  Liverpool's other option at right back is Joe Gomez.  Since returning from a serious knee injury Gomez has struggled for games and like Williams, it was expected that he would move on in the summer.  However, Liverpool now appear to want to keep Gomez for the ling term, with several articles claiming Liverpool are preparing a new deal for the versatile defender.  Again, there is no denying Gomez's natural ability and it would be a shame to lose him, particularly as he was seen as the long term successor to Van Dijk just a couple of years ago.  If Gomez is happy to play a supporting role in the short-term then we would definately like to see him stay.
