James Milner signs new contract to extend his stay at Anfield

Milner signs new contract

Liverpool Vice-Captain James Milner has signed a new one-year contact with Liverpool, extending his 7 year relationship with the Reds for at least another 12 months.

The 36 year old's previous contract was due to expire in the summer, and despite interest from several Premier League clubs, the veteran midfielder has decided to remain part of Jurgen Klopp's squad as they aim for further silverware in the 2022-23 season.

Milner has apparently accepted a cut in basic wages to secure the deal deal, in a clear sign that Liverpool is the only place he wants to play football as he nears the end of his illustrious career.

"I’m very pleased to be staying for another season,” Milner told the club’s official website.

“I have never taken playing for this club for granted and I never will.”

Milner made 39 appearances last season, although many of these were from the subs bench.  Despite not being a regular starter, Milner's experience and importance in the dressing room cannot be overstated and everyone at Liverpool will be delighted that he will be sticking around for another year.
