With no further updates since Saturdays Final Mane keeps Liverpool fans guessing about his future.
Before Saturdays Champions League Final Sadio Mane stated that he would give Liverpool fans a “special message” after the game. Many took that as a sign he was ready to commit his long term future to the Reds.
Since then, virtually all the news surrounding Mane has been negative, with most journalists and news articles reporting that Mane has told Liverpool he intends to leave in the summer.
And yet, three days on from the final, there has still been no official word from either Mane or Liverpool. It's difficult to ascertain what the silence might mean. Are the reports wide of the mark and Mane intends to stay? Sadly if that was the case then it would be very easy for him to just come out and say so. More likely is that discussions are still ongoing behind the scenes between Mane and the club. Maybe he feels aggrieved at not being offered a new contract sooner. The contract dispute with Salah has been widely reported for months. Mane has every right to feel upset that he has not also been offered a new contract alongside Salah, when he has outperformed the Egyptian in the second half of the season. Then you have to factor in the Klopp effect. Everyone knows how passionate and supportive Klopp is of his players and staff. You only have to look at the hugs that he dishes out before, during and after a game to see how close he is with the players. Mane might well feel upset about his contract situation, but if Klopp gets involved - literally and figuratively putting an arm around his shoulder - it might be much harder for Mane to leave.
Or maybe the decision is already made, and Liverpool simply want to keep things quiet whilst they line up a replacement striker. We have become very accomplished in recent seasons at keeping transfer negotiations under wraps until an official announcement is made - just look at the Luis Diaz deal. If that is the case then Klopp and Ward and probably hard at work identifying the best possible candidate to take over from Mane. In our view the ideal replacement would be Darwin Nunez from Benfica. He has shown first hand in last seasons Champions League quarter final at Anfield that he has the skills and attitude to succeed at Liverpool, and at just 22 years of age the Uruguayan has plenty of time to get even better under the stewardship of Klopp and his coaching staff.
