Klopp becomes first German Manager to win FA Cup

Jurgen Klopp wrote another piece of history yesterday as he becomes first German Manager to win FA Cup.

During his time with Liverpool Jurgen Klopp has broken many records, both as part of the team and individually, but this latest record will be especially pleasing to him.

After winning the League Cup / Carabao Cup earlier in the season the FA Cup was the only title that Klopp had not won in England.  Often accused of ignoring or belittling the cup by fielding weakened teams, the truth was simply that Liverpool did not have the squad depth to seriously challenge in all competitions in the earlier part of Klopp's reign.  Competitions had to be prioritised and, for all the FA Cup's history and glamour, the Premier League and Champions League are where the money is, and therefore were more of a priority for Klopp (and Liverpool's owners - FSG), as he looked to increase the profile of LFC, and bring in more money to improve the squad.

Now into his 7th year as LFC Manager, Klopp has arguably the best squad in Europe, and possible the best squad Liverpool have ever assembled.  It makes sense that he can now attack all four competitions each season, knowing that his squad players are more than capable of winning games.

Take yesterdays game for example.  When Salah was injured in the first half, Klopp was able to bring on Diogo Jota, a £40million international striker.  In the past he would have had to choose from Rhian Brewster or Danny Ings.  The same is true when Van Dijk went off before extra-time.  Losing your best defender would normally limit your chances of winning, but instead of calling on Ozan Kabak or asking Henderson to 'fill in', Klopp brought on the hugely experienced Joel Matip, who has enjoyed another excellent season at Anfield and is one of the top 5 defenders in the Premier League.

As Klopp said himself after the game - "Then you bring Diogo Jota and Joel Matip in, that’s the best situation I’ve ever been in as a coach. That’s absolutely outstanding, that’s why we had the chance."

The success that Liverpool are currently enjoying isn't by chance.  Jurgen Klopp has developed and improved every aspect of the squad.  With many players now hitting the prime of their careers, Liverpool have the chance to challenge for all 4 trophies again for the foreseeable future - and that is thanks to Jurgen Klopp!
