Liverpool learn Champions League Final Opponents

Salah was watching.  Klopp was watching.  Liverpool fans were watching.  We all wanted to learn Liverpool’s Champions League Final opponents.

For 89 ½ minutes last night it looked like being an all English Final.  Liverpool vs Manchester City Part 4, or 5, or 6, or however many times we have played them recently.

Then in the final few seconds of normal time the footballing gods intervened, and decided that this seasons Champions League hadn’t been exciting enough.  The following 3 minutes of madness will rank alongside any in football folklore.  Real Madrid scored twice and Man City hearts were broken.  That Madrid went on to win the game in extra time was inevitable.  Man City couldn’t believe it. Pep couldn’t believe it, the players couldn’t believe it.  Steve McManaman on commentary couldn’t believe it.

But the final is now set.  Liverpool vs Real Madrid.  May 28th 2022. Paris.

Who knows how the next few games will play out?  But the prospect of Liverpool beating Real Madrid to win the quadruple would be the perfect end to a fairy-tale season.
