2024: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola hails Jurgen Klopp as "the best rival I ever had in my life" after Klopp announced his decision to retire from Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season.

2023: Former Red Kolo Toure was sacked by Wigan Athletic after just nine days in charge at the DW Stadium.  Stefan Bajcetic signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool.

2022: Mo Salah was the hero for Egypt after his spot-kick sent the Pharaohs into the Quarter-Finals of the African Cup of Nations.

2021: Liverpool completed a deal for 'wonderkid' Kaide Gordon from Derby County, but were unable to officially confirm the signing due to a hold-up with the Premier League's paperwork.  Gordon would go on to secure his transfer a few days later.

2020: Shrewsbury Town came from 2 - 0 down at Anfield to earn an unlikely two-all draw in the FA Cup Fourth Round.

2019: Liverpool officially completed the signing of young defender Billy Koumetio from Orleans.  Elsewhere, Liverpool Under 18s threw away a two-goal lead at Manchester United Under 18s, losing 3 - 2 in the FA Youth Cup.

2016: Liverpool lost the second leg of the League Cup Semi-Final 1 - 0  to Stoke City at Anfield.  The result meant the two-legged semi-final went to penalties, with the Reds winning 6 - 5 in the shoot-out.

2008: Yossi Benyoun was the hero as Liverpool twice came from behind to beat non-league Havant and Waterlooville 5 - 2 in the Fourth round of the FA Cup.  Israeli midfielder Benayoun scored a hat-trick to spare Liverpool's blushes and ensure we reached the next round of the competition.  The game also saw cult hero Lucas Levia score his first goal for the Reds.

1999: Cameroonian footballer Rigobert Song joined Liverpool from Italian side Salernitana for a fee of £2.7million.  The versatile defender could operate at centre-back or right-back, and made 34 appearances in all competitions, before moving to Premier League rivals West Ham.

1982: Liverpool Legend Ray Kennedy left Anfield for Swansea City on the 26th of January 1982, after spending 8 years at the club.  Kennedy was often known as 'Super Sub', and had a knack of scoring vital goals when coming on as a substitute.

1973: Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was born on the 26th of January 1973, in Carnlough, County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
