1977 : Liverpool won their first ever European Cup / Champions League Title on this day in 1977, with a 3-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. The Final took place in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, with 52,078 fans in attendance. An early Liverpool goal from Terry McDermott was cancelled out by Allan Simonsen, before goals from Tommy Smith and Phil Neal secured victory, and the Title, for Liverpool. Not only was this Liverpool's first European Cup victory, it also came just a year after they had won the UEFA Cup, meaning manager Bob Paisley was the first manager to win the UEFA Cup and European Cup in successive seasons.
