2023 :
2022 : Curtis Jones signs a new long-term contract with LFC. The Liverpool born midfielder, aged 21 at the time of signing his contract, joined the Reds at under-9 age. By the age of 21 Jones had made 81 senior appearances and had won the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and FA Charity Shield. Jones also holds the record as the Reds youngest ever Captain (as of 2022), at the age of 19 years and 5 days, in an FA Cup game against Shrewsbury Town in February 2020.
2021 : 7 Liverpool players featured for their national teams as World Cup qualifying took centre stage. Virgil Van Dijk skippered the Netherlands to top spot in their qualifying group, and automatic qualification for Qatar 2022, with a 2-0 victory over Norway. Elsewhere, Neco Williams, Divock Origi, Mohamad Salah, Takumi Minamino, Alisson Becker and Fabihno all saw international action.
2020 : Jurgen Klopp led Liverpool's first training session at the clubs new £50million AXA Training Complex. The evening session was attended by a skeleton squad, with many of the Reds first team players still away on international duty. Senior players such as Joel Matip, Divock Origi and James Milner were present for the historic moment, as the Reds officially began life at the new state of the art training complex. The new facility was due to open earlier in 2020, but the Covid-19 pandemic delayed construction work by several months.
2019 : Anfield hosted its first ever FA Women's Super League Merseyside derby, with Liverpool Ladies suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to their nearest rivals. Despite being the better team throughout the game, a goalkeeping error from Reds stopper Anke Preuss ensured it was the blue half of Liverpool celebrating. Over 23,500 fans turned out to support the Ladies.
