The football landscape changes forever as the Premier League is founded.  Created by the top 20 clubs in the English First Division - including Liverpool, the breakaway league takes advantage of enormous television rights deals, to attract the best players and managers to the English game.

1959 : Bill Shankly is appointed Liverpool Manager on 14th December 1959.  He inherits a team stuck in the Second Division, with a decaying stadium and terrible training facilities.  The Anfield stadium was in such bad repair, that it was not even possible to water to pitch.  Shankly immediately informed the board that they had to spend £3000 repairing the pitch.
