Mo Salah continues to break records

Liverpool's Egyptian King has been in fine form since the start of the season, registering six goals and five assists in just nine appearances, including an assist and a goal in the Champions League win over Bologna earlier in the week.

And it was the goal on Wednesday evening that helped Salah break another two records, one for Liverpool, and one for the Champions League.

There isn't much more that you can say about Mo Salah.  The man is a Legend.  It's as simple as that.  Despite turning 32 earlier in the year, he continues to perform at a level that 99% of players can only dream about.

Wednesday night was another example of this.  Against Bologna in the Champions League, Salah created Liverpool's first goal, floating a lovely cross into the box for Alexis Mac Allister to finish, before scoring the type of 'wonder goal' that most players score once in a career, but that Salah scores every few matches.  Receiving the ball from Szoboszlai on the right-hand corner of the box, Salah waited for Alexander-Arnold's run to drag the defender out of position, before cutting onto his left foot and curling an unstoppable finish into the top left corner of the goal.

It was breathtaking, it was sublime, it was Salah!

Salah racks up more Liverpool records

And by scoring on Wednesday night, Mo Salah created another little piece of LFC history, becoming the first Liverpool player to score in five consecutive Champions League games at Anfield.  Four of those games came in the 2022/23 season (with Liverpool missing out on CL football last season), but the Egyptian has wasted no time on making his mark on this season's competition.

The goal also pushes him further ahead of the rest when it comes to total goals scored in European Competitions, with Salah comfortably ahead of the rest, with 48 goals in Europe so far for the Reds, 45 of which have come in the Champions League.

Salah breaks Champions League goalscoring record

As well as breaking records for Liverpool, Salah also collected a Champions League record on Wednesday night, becoming the highest-scoring African player in the competition's history!

The record was previously held by former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, with the Ivorian scoring an incredible 44 goals, but that total has now been surpassed by Salah, with his 45th goal in the competition.  Other names on the list of top African goalscorers include Samuel Eto'o (30), Sadio Mane (27), and Riyad Mahrez (20).

Salah's 45 goals have come in just 81 games, meaning he scores a goal in the competition every 1.8 games.

Salah 15th on the all-time top goalscorers list

In terms of the top goal-scorers in the history of the Champions League, Salah still has a long way to go to reach Christiano Ronaldo's total of 140 goals.  With 45 goals, Salah sits 15th on the all-time list, but with several players just ahead of him on 46 and 48 goals, Salah could (and should) be moving up the list very soon.

To break into the top 10, he would need 49 goals, which would lift him above legendary strikers Adriy Shevchenko (48) and Zlatan Ibrahimovic (48).

If Liverpool has a successful run in this year's competition, then more records seem sure to follow.
