Premier League football is back
After an extended summer break, the Premier League returns later today, as the 2024/25 season gets underway with Manchester United welcoming Fulham to Old Trafford.
Liverpool's season begins tomorrow, as new boss Arne Slot takes his players to Portman Road, to face newly promoted Ipswitch Town.
After an extended summer break that included Euro 2024, The Copa America, and the Olympics, Premier League football is finally back, with the season's first game later tonight.
The season officially begins at 8pm tonight, as Manchester United host Fulham at Old Trafford, before six games on Saturday (including Liverpool's trip to Ipswitch Town).
Manchester City are the clear favorites to retain the title, with Arsenal and Liverpool expected to challenge, while Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle will all be looking for a top 4 finish, and Champions League football.
New Season brings new Hope
For Liverpool fans, the start of a new season is always a time of great optimism, and this season is no different, however, a new manager and lack of transfer activity means it is hard to gauge how Liverpool will fare in the months ahead. Certainly, the Reds have enjoyed a strong pre-season, which saw victories over Arsenal and Man United, as well as a convincing 4 - 1 win over Sevilla last weekend. New boss Arne Slot has also inherited a strong squad with plenty of world-class players, but it would be a remarkable achievement if the Dutchman could lead Liverpool to the title in his first season.
Things will become much clearer over the next couple of weeks, as the Reds face Ipswitch Town, Brentford, Man United, and Nottingham Forest in their opening four games. Win those four games, and Anfield will again believe that a title-challenge is possible.
