Liverpool and Chelsea prepare to do battle once more on Sunday, as the two teams meet in the Final of the Carabao Cup.  The game is a re-run of the 2022 Final, which Liverpool won on penalties.  Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher was the hero that day, scoring the winning penalty (yes you read that right), after all ten outfield players had scored their penalties.

Liverpool fans will be hoping to see Virgil Van Dijk lift the trophy this time around, as the Reds look to complete the first part of an unlikely Quadruple.

In preparation for the game, LFC - Back On Our Perch takes a look at which team has the better head-to-head record, both in the Carabao Cup and in general.

Carabao Cup Stats

Liverpool Victories - 9
Chelsea Victories - 5

  • Liverpool are the undisputed League Cup Kings, with a record nine victories in the competition.  If they win on Sunday, the Reds will break into double figures and have double the number of victories that Chelsea have.
  • The two teams have met in the Final twice before, once in 2005 and the aforementioned 2022 Final.  Chelsea won after extra time in 2005, whilst Liverpool won on penalties in 2022.
  • Liverpool are playing in a record 14th Final, whilst Chelsea will be making their 9th appearance in the showpiece event.
  • All in, the two teams have met nine times in the League Cup, with both teams winning four wins each, with one draw
