Van Dijk breaks club record on 250th appearance

Today's game against Brentford was a special one for Virgil Van Dijk, as the Reds skipper made his 250th appearance, and broke an LFC club record in the process.

Liverpool produced an excellent display earlier today beating Brentford 4 - 1 at the Gtech Stadium, with Virgil Van Dijk having another solid game at the centre of defence.  The Reds may not have kept a clean sheet, but Van Dijk organised his defenders well and restricted Brentford to long-range efforts.

Aside from the victory, it was a special day for Van Dijk, as the skipper made his 250th appearance for the Reds.  You can read all about his achievements here.

As well as hitting the personal milestone, Van Dijk also broke a club record, achieving the most wins in his first 250 appearances of any player in the club's history!

Van Dijk has now won 171 games as a Liverpool player, a win ratio of 68.4%.  Trent Alexander-Arnold is second on the list, with 168 wins, whilst Alisson is third, with 164 victories.

  9. Ian Rush (1980 - 1986 & 1988 - 1996) - 153 wins
  10. Georginio Wijnaldum (2016 - 2021) - 151 wins  *Wijnaldum made 237 appearances for LFC before leaving.

Well done to Virgil Van Dijk on another Liverpool record.  Hopefully he will soon be celebrating a new contract as well, and then Reds fans can look forward to many more years with Van Dijk at the heart of Liverpool's defence.
