Jurgen Klopp has been recognised for Liverpool's excellent results in January by being named 'Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month'.
The Reds played three league games in January and recorded three 4 - 0 victories.
Liverpool started the month with a 4 - 2 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield, before thumping AFC Bournemouth 4 - 0 away. Liverpool finished the month with another impressive display, this time beating Chelsea 4 - 1 at Anfield. The victories kept Liverpool at the top of the table and came alongside victories in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
The other contenders for the monthly away were Arsenal's Mikel Arteta, Luton Town's Rob Edwards, and Manchester City's Pep Guardiola.
It is the tenth time Klopp has won a 'Manager of the Month' award. Accepting the award Klopp commented,
"December was already [tough] because it was game after game after game, and then more like limping into January, you never know.
"Obviously in that moment Wataru [Endo] and Mo [Salah] left [to international duty], so the boys did incredibly well. We had great results, went through to the [Carabao Cup] final, played exceptional FA Cup games. So it was a really good month, surprisingly good, to be honest."
"We are Manager of the Month – great!"
"You know how influential all the guys around me are. I’m the face of all these kinds of things. I won a few over the years but I’m pretty sure all of my coaches got one to take it home."
“So we are Manager of the Month, we know that. If that happens – it’s pretty rare – but if that happens you know it’s a good month and a lot of good work behind. So, thank you, guys, again.”
Jota makes it a Reds double in January
Diogo Jota has also been recognised for his excellent performances in January - by being named 'Premier League Player Player of the Month' for January.
Surprisingly, it is the first time that Jota has won the award, despite the consistently high level at which he performs.
The Portuguese forward provided an assist in the 4 - 2 victory over Newcastle, before scoring twice against AFC Bournemouth. Jota then scored the opening goal as Liverpool thrashed Chelsea at Anfield.
Speaking after collecting the award, Jota said,
"It was a great month for me, and for the team and I’m just happy to win this award for the first time. It’s always nice."
"The team won – that was most important – but I did a big contribution and I was very happy because I came from [an] injury, so that was special for me to get it done straight away."
"Things are clicking and you need to take full advantage of that because we all know how it works – sometimes you can’t stop scoring and sometimes it seems like you can’t score."
"I just want to take the most out of these moments that I’m having and help the team."
