Liverpool and Chelsea square off in the Carabao Cup Final in twelve days, with both teams struggling with a host of injury problems.
The Red's injury woes have been well documented in recent weeks, with key players such as Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Dominik Szoboszlai all missing recent games. Indeed, all three players are doubtful for the upcoming final. But news coming out of Stamford Bridge, suggests Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino may be facing just as many headaches as Jurgen Klopp, with several of Chelsea's first-team players also on the treatment table.
With that in mind, LFC - Back On Our Perch has compiled a list of the Chelsea players likely to miss the Carabao Cup Final on February 25th.
Players Ruled Out :
Romeo Lavia - Lavia's first season at Stamford Bridge has not gone to plan. Signed for £52million in the summer, the Belgian midfielder has played just 32 minutes for his new club and is set to be one of the biggest transfer flops of the season.
Benoit Badiashile - Badiashile picked up a hip/pelvis/groin injury several weeks ago, with the latest news suggesting he will miss the upcoming final.
Wesley Fofana - Forfana suffered an ACL injury in pre-season, and will likely miss the whole of the 2023/24 season.
Reece James - The Chelsea Captain has had a terrible couple of years with injury, and this season has been no different. James suffered a thigh injury in December 2023, and doesn't look likely to return until March 2024 at the earliest.
Players possibly ruled out :
Marc Cucurella - Cucurella suffered an ankle injury in December. Although he is working his way back to full fitness, the Cup Final will likely come too soon for his return.
Malo Gusto - Gusto suffered from cramp and tiredness in a recent game, but with rest will probably be ok for the final.
Robert Sanchez - Chelsea's No.1 keeper has been out since December when he injured his knee against Everton. The injury was not as bad as first feared, but Sanchez is unlikely to recover in time for the final.
Thiago Silva - Possibly the most important player on this list, Thiago Silva has been Chelsea's best player for most of the season, despite recently turning 40 years of age. Thiago suffered a groin injury last week, with further tests needed to discover the extent of the injury. If he is not fit, it will be a huge blow to Chelsea and a massive lift to Liverpool.
Lesley Ugochukwu - The young midfielder has a thigh strain, and is unlikely to feature in the upcoming final.
