It's a day we all knew would come - we just didn't want it to be this soon....
Jurgen Klopp will leave his role as Liverpool Manager at the end of the 2023/24 season. During his eight and a half years at Anfield, Klopp has delivered more highs than any Liverpool fan could dare to dream of. Champions League winners, Premier League winners, FA Cup winners, League Cup winners, FIFA Club World Cup winners - Klopp and his players have won it all.
To help fans prepare for Klopp's departure, LFC - Back On Our Perch takes a look at the last game that Klopp will manage, in each of the four competitions that Liverpool are playing in.
Last Premier League Home Match
Sunday 19th May 2024
vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Thankfully, Liverpool's last game of the season is at home - to Wolves. If Klopp's story is to have a fairytale ending, then Liverpool will be celebrating another Premier League Title - this time in front of a packed Anfield. But whatever the outcome of the this seasons Premier League, Anfield will see an outpouring of emotion, the likes of which we haven't seen for many decades.
Last Carabao Cup Match
Sunday 25th February 2025
@ Wembley
vs Chelsea
Liverpool are already through to the Final of the Carabao Cup, where they will face Chelsea at the end of February. The game will be a re-run of the 2022 Final, which Liverpool won on penalties. Hopefully Liverpool can repeat that feat, allowing Klopp to bow out as the reigning Carabao Cup Champions.
Last FA Cup Match
In a perfect world, Klopp would end his Liverpool career with another FA Cup Winners medal around his neck. This years Final takes place on Saturday 25th May 2024. To reach the final of course, Liverpool will need to overcome Norwich in the Fourth Round, as well as three other opponents in later rounds. All we can say for sure at this stage, is that Liverpool play Norwich on Sunday 28th January 2024. Hopefully it won't be Klopp's last involvement in the FA Cup.
Last Europa League Match
As with the FA Cup, it would be perfect if Klopp left Liverpool with another European Title to his name, especially as he, nor Liverpool, have ever won the Europa League. The Europa League Final takes place on Wednesday 22nd May, just three days before the FA Cup Final. What a week that could be for Klopp! Again, Liverpool have several hurdles to overcome to reach and win the Final, starting with the Round of 16, which is played over two legs. The draw is yet to take place, so we don't know if Liverpool will be home or away for the first leg, but the games take place on the 7th and 14th March 2024. Liverpool are the heavy favourites to win the Europa League, with our greatest challenge likely to come from Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton, West Ham, Milan or Sporting CP.
